12 Months of Bread - 1/12

2013 is going to be full of projects and goals. I have listed a few ideas that I want to get stuck into. Some will last the year, some all the way until my goal is complete. The first one I wanted to share hits two birds with one stone as it also strikes off #1 on my Eighteen before Twentyfive: 'Learn to bake my own amazing bread'.

Here is the goal; I will bake 12 new, and different, loaves of bread in 2013. I'm pretty excited about this!! I can almost smell all those different loaves baking. Here we go, wish me luck!

For my first ever, completely from scratch loaf, I decided to go for something basic. I used this recipe from BBC Good Food;  this is a site I use often, you can filter things down to vegetarian and vegan friendly recipes which is super helpful.

Lessons Learnt:  I had a tough time getting it out! A little of the bottom was torn off. I dusted the tin with flour before baking maybe I need more, or maybe I need an alternative. I also learnt you need a hell of a lot of patience to bake bread.

Verdict: I substitute the white flour for strong wholemeal bread flour. I read this would make it a little denser; which it did, but that didn't ruin it! Tasted great. Perfect for soup dipping. I'm very proud. I can't wait to get onto the next one.

  1. Looks delicious! Once I get all moved into my place I would love to make my own bread-- it's one of those things that seems SO intimidating, but it really isn't that hard.

  2. I love to bake but I've never tried making bread!! Ooo if you make rosemary foccia bread let me know!! =) This one looks super yummy! Maybe cornmeal on the bottom of the bread pan will make it not stick so much??
